John Henry (1948); Fishing vessel; Trawler
Scale: 1:48. A full hull model of the fictitious trawler John Henry (circa 1948) made entirely in wood with metal and organic material fittings and painted in realistic colours. The vessel is depicted set in a realistically modelled and painted sea on the starboard side while the hull on the port side can be viewed in totality. The model is wired for electrically operated functions controlled by switches in the right-hand corner of the plaster sea base. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline, grey above with a narrow white line running the entire length of the hull at main deck level, and white upperworks. Fittings include a forecastle with anchor winch gear and enclosed by white rails; main deck accommodating a mast rigged with a boom, fish compartments and winches; wooden-clad superstructure with enclosed pilot house that overhangs the accommodation below and with an open bridge above; single funnel painted dark cream with a pair of similar-painted ventilators; and a raised boat deck at the stern with a pair of lifeboats stowed on davits and with grey covers. On port and starboard bows ‘John Henry GY000’. On stern ‘John Henry Grimsby’. On the funnel, port and starboard bows, and stern quarters ‘GY000’. On base ‘Model by I R Amis Limited London SW20’.
