Horomya (1956); Cargo vessel; Oil Tanker

Scale: 1:96. Built by Hawthorn Leslie the ‘Horomya’ (1956) was built to the orders of Shell Tankers Ltd. She was 555 feet in length, 12,183 gross registered tons, and had a service speed of 14.5 knots. She was well known for having a low freeboard when fully laden with either crude or white oil products, so that in very rough weather she would ship a lot of water over her deck, which could be disconcerting for novice crewmembers. ‘Horomya’ was scrapped in 1975.

The model shows a wealth of interesting features, like the secondary wheel and binnacle, set right at the stern on the starboard side of the main deck. Crew accommodation was located at the stern, too, and we can see their swimming pool beneath an awning. The model is housed in an unusual bronze-framed case, with integral table.
