Scale: About 1:12. A model of a breeches buoy (circa 1820-40) made in wood and organic materials and painted in realistic colours. The model depict a spherical buoy for transferring people from ship to shore that completely encloses the occupant. The model is constructed in frame made of metal with a canvas or leather skin applied to the lower portion and secured with tacks around the perimeter of the buoy providing a waterproof bottom. It is complete with a figure of a gentleman, with detailed features and dressed in a black top hat, cravat and a worsted wool coat with a double row of buttons. The metal frame is supplemented with a hoop of wood around the upper portion of the buoy, at the top of which is fitted a metal sheave block. The model is equipped with several items of equipment that are fired from a rocket launcher to secure a line to shore.
