Service vessel; Raft; Raft lifeline
Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a raft lifeline (circa 1817) made entirely in wood with metal and organic material fittings, parts of which show traces of cream paint, the remainder unpainted. The model consists of a large barrel or cask with a hinged opening on top, and rope grablines at either end fitted with cork floats. The barrel is attached to a section of wooden decking to illustrate how the raft is stowed on board. It is held in place by several ropes which could be cut away in the event of an emergency. The securing and stowage ropes are connected to a number of deadeyes. The hinged opening and hatch are square in section.
