Liferaft

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a liferaft (1845) made from two barrels, two spars and eight gratings made entirely in wood with metal fittings and either polished or varnished. The barrels have traces of green paint, are elongated in shape and are secured to either end of the two spars. One barrel has a small jackstaff attached to it flying a French tricolour. The eight gratings are all a uniform length but vary slightly in the width. They are arranged in two groups of four between the barrels, their short ends lashed to the yards. There is a gap between the two groups of gratings suggesting that some might be missing. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden baseboard, with curved edges and a pair of stretchers on which the baseboard rests.
