Unknown vessel

Undetermined scale. One of the strangest models in the NMM’s collection (along with a nearly identical model, SLR1803) it depicts a vessel bearing characteristics of various types of traditional indigenous craft. The ‘rudder’ forms part of the hull while the bow is shaped a little like a Polynesian canoe. The ‘slot’ looks like it might have had a provision for a centreboard, or drop-keel, while the raised part, amidships, and the bulbous protuberance underneath the hull, remain matters of conjecture.
