Boy Albert; Passenger vessel; Beach boat; Yarmouth beach boat
Scale: 1:8. A full hull model of the Boy Albert, a Yarmouth beach boat made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted and varnished in realistic finishes. The hull is made plank-on-frame and clinker-built, painted white below the waterline and varnished above. Fittings include four oars and rowlocks, two thwarts, and ample side and stern seating with a backboard. The model is currently displayed on a modern museum-made Perspex baseboard. On backboard ‘A.Moore Boy Albert. No 96 Licensed to carry 8 persons’. On stern ‘Boy Albert Yarmouth’
These boats were used by local boatmen at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk for pleasure parties during the summer and fishing during the winter. They are relatively flat-bottomed towards the stern and this, along with the cutaway part of the keel, allows them to come ashore stern-first.
