Full hull model of the 'James Yates' (circa 1900), a racing skiff, built at a scale of 1:32. On the base is a glass diamond shaped plaque inscribed ‘The model of George Perkin's boat The James Yates that he rode in and defeated J Largan of Manchester & Neil Matterson of Australia for the Championship of England’.
As well as being raced at Henley Regatta, these boats were used by apprentice watermen for the Doggett’s Coat and Badge Race on the River Thames. They were ‘sculled’ by a pair of oars with the rower on a sliding seat.ower on a sliding seat.
