Equipment model; Anchor model

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Martin's Patent anchor, 1869, made entirely in brass which has been lacquered. The model shows the working parts of this type of anchor with swivelling flukes and shackles. The shank is square in section and tapers towards the top passing through the flat, shallow V-shaped stock which is held in place with a fidded wedge. Above this is fitted a brass bow shackle, that swivels on a round-headed rivet. Lower down on the shank is a pair of swivelling D-shaped shackles that can be pivoted independently of one another. The crown hangs well below the anchor in two forks that resemble a figure '8' in section. Between these forks is a triangular-shaped piece of brass held in position by two pairs of bolts, or rivets, set one above the other.
