Equipment model; Anchor model

Scale: 1:12. A model of a Byers anchor made entirely in aluminium alloy and patinated a dark, matt, grey colour. The shank is rectangular in section with rounded sides along the lengths of which is inscribed on one side in capital lettering "W.L. Byers & Co.Ltd. Sunderland.", and along the length of the opposite rounded side "Admiralty Pattern". Along the lengths of the two straight sides of the shank is inscribed "Scale 1 in - 1 Ft for 40 CWT." and along the length of the opposite side in copperplate script "Lloyds Register of British & Foreign Shipping 1904.".

There is a 'D'-shaped ring at the top of the shank and, attached to it, a short length of chain comprising three links. The shank swivels on the crown through an arc of about 90 degrees, the mechanism for which is embedded in the crown itself. The crown has a rounded bottom and, at each corner, there are four rectangular feet. The short arms sweep vertically from the crown terminating in a pair of elongated flukes whose height is level with approximately two-thirds the height of the shank. Each fluke is inscribed, or impressed, with a broad arrow on one palm and, on the other palm, a symbol similar to a swastika but in mirror-image.
