Captain S.B. Dunn
An ambrotype (also known as wet collodion positive) three-quarter length portrait of Captain S.B. Dunn, a master in the merchant marine. He is seated with his right arm resting on a table and his left hand in his lap. Dunn is looking slightly to the right (viewer's left) past the camera. he is wearing a dark three-piece suit of trousers, long jacket (unbuttoned) and a waistcoat (buttoned) with a white shirt and dark large bowtie/crevat.
Acquired with a glass goblet believed to depict the 'Isabella' of Folkestone, engraved with the name S.B. Dunn and the date 1856 see GGG0451.
Identity of the sitter has not been fully established, as no record of him in the Master's Certificates has been located (yet). Nor in the early volumes of Merchantile Navy List as a Master. Nor in the Lloyd's Survey Report online database.
