Equipment model; Mooring block

Scale: 1:12. A model of a mooring block proposed by James Park (1815). The model is made entirely of brass which has been lacquered overall. The base is slightly inclined towards the forward end where the long D-shackle is connected. The front three sides angle inwards finishing at the flat top of the block while the rear face is almost vertical and is complete with a pair of cast lugs which were probably used for transporting and positioning the block on the sea bed. The large elongated D-shackle is secured by a brass bolt which is held in place with a fidded wedge. The block is inscribed: 'MODEL of a Mooring Block on a Scale of one inch to the foot invented by James Park Master Attendant Portsmo Yard and adopted P (per) Navy Board's Warrt 23rd Sepr 1815.'
