Scale: 1:96. Topographic model of the Goss Shipyard, Calstock, Cornwall (circa 1905). The model is made almost entirely of wood with some metal fittings and illustrates the process of wooden shipbuilding from wood in the round with bark, through to cut and seasoned components as well as repairing ships afloat. There are five buildings, one is a brick-built pub called the James Passage Inn, the other are wooden built sheds. There are a variety of small craft, a long wooden steam box, a saw pit together with an assortment of trees and vegetation. There are three vessels, including an incomplete hull with keel, floors and frames, the topsail schooner Sunbeam of Chester and the brigantine Rhoda Mary of Falmouth moored just off the foreshore. The model depicts a variety of workers preparing, constructing and maintaining wooden vessels.
