Argus (circa 1938); Fishing vessel; Schooner

Scale: Unknown. A scenic model of the Portuguese four-masted schooner Argus (circa 1938) made in wood with metal and organic material fittings and painted in realistic colours. The fisheries factory vessel Argus is depicted at anchor with a number of newly launched dories around it, some being rowed, others with their colourful triangular sails set, their long lines on the seabed. A section of undulating seabed is also shown, textured and painted mid-grey, and is effectively the baseboard of the model. The hull of the Argus is painted white, streaked with rust. The four identical masts are painted grey except for their topmasts which are unpainted wood with white tops. There are several deckhouses, all painted white. The model is mounted in an irregularly shaped transparent perspex sea which is held in its correct position above the seabed baseboard by six tall metal rods. On port and starboard bows ‘Argus’ and ‘LX8N’. On stern ‘Argus Lisboa’.
