HMS Barfleur (1892); Warship; Battleship, Second-Class

Scale: 1:48. A contemporary and realistically painted model of the bow section of H.M.S Barfleur depicted on a launching cradle and made almost entirely in wood with some metal fittings. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline with a fine yellow ochre stripe above and black upper works. There is a yellow stripe along the hull just below deck level, and the two hawseholes on the starboard side and single hawsehole on the port side are painted red inside. The crest at the bow depicts a lion rampant above a heraldic shield. The deck of the section is devoid of detail apart from the hawsehole outlets, and is painted yellow ochre. The rear section is also painted yellow ochre and bears a hand painted inscription which reads:`Barfleur Arrangement for Launching at HM Dockyards, Chatham on August 10th 1892 Designed by C T Glenn, R.C.N.C, Chief Constructor'. The section of slipway launch cradle forms part of the baseboard and is realistically depicted in polished wood with metal fittings. The model is attached to the cradle by a pair of hinges screwed to the rear of the section. The model is displayed on a rectangular mahogany baseboard with bevelled edges on four bun feet.
