HMS Emerald (1856); Warship; 51 guns

Scale: Unknown. Model of the bow of HMS 'Emerald' (1856) made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is copper below the waterline, black above with a broad white stripe along the main gundeck. The truncated bowsprit, gunwale and inboard bulwarks are painted white.The catheads and the upper half of their support brackets are painted black. The section of forecastle is painted off-white scored with black lines to resemble planking.There is an elaborately carved female figure representing Victory with arms out-stretched. Four gunports are shown on the gundeck and six on the forecastle.The model is mounted on a circular mahogany backboard with a decorative bevelled edge and a domed glass cover.
