HMS 'Volage' (1869); Warship; Iron screw corvette
Scale: Unknown. Sectional model showing the port bow of HMS 'Volage' (1869), an iron screw corvette. The model has been carved from a single piece of wood and painted in realistic colours; the deck is painted buff yellow, the hull below the waterline in terracotta brown and black above with yellow boot topping. Four rectangular port holes have been painted in a single row. On the upper deck face of the model a partly missing paper label has been applied, on the stern face of the model a blue edge octagonal paper label has been applied, and on the rear face a damaged paper label has been applied that once read “Cumb'l'd Room", denoting the fact that it was once displayed in the Cumberland Room of the Royal Naval College Museum. Two hanging brackets have been mounted to the rear face, and the remains of a bowsprit can be seen.
