HMS Vanguard (1835); Warship; Third rate; 78 guns

Scale: 1:24. A model of the HMS Vanguard (1835), a third rate 78 gun ship, made entirely from wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted brick red below the waterline with black and white horizontal banding upperworks, the white bands intersecting the depicted gun ports. The inboard rail is painted dark green and the deck is painted a pale olive green. The inner faces of all the gun ports are painted red, as are the hawseholes. Four gun ports are shown on each side of the lower gun deck, four each side on the main gun deck and five either side of the forecastle deck. The catheads are depicted, their ends being painted with garter styles. The anchor and cable is detached from the model and stored separately.

The forward most channels are shown in part on both sides of the model, and four deadeyes are shown on each section. The model has an elaborately carved figure head depicting a Roman warrior. The main and lower gun decks can be seen from the rear of the model and are sparsely equipped. The model has provision for a foremast and bowsprit, both of which are missing.
