HMS 'Chameleon' (1860); Second class, sloop; 17-guns

Scale: 1:24. A sectional model depicting the circular stern of HMS 'Chameleon' (1860), a second rate sloop, 17-guns. The model has been made entirely of wood, and the outboard hull is painted black overall, with a thin white stripe along the level of the gun deck and lower portion of the gun port. The stern is complete with a stern post, with a slight gap at its forward edge to take the propeller. The stern galleries consist of 14 quarter glazed windows with carved decoration between each window, whilst between the moulding for the taffrail and the upper stern galleries the name "Chameleon" is hand painted. Inboard the model is finished in stained and varnished wood with the gun ports and the bulworks painted white internally, and a black bulwork capping running round the top of the whole stern section. The deck is a single piece of stained varnished wood, on which the planking is inscribed.

There are two printed paper labels applied to the model, one upon the gun deck towards the stern and the larger label with the number "12" just below the gallery amidship.
