HMS Superb (1842)
Scale: Unknown. Sectional model of the port side of a three deck warship illustrating the frame construction made entirely from a single piece of wood. The exterior is illustrated with the frames, stern and quarter gallery construction and diagonal bracing pieces in a natural varnished wood with the individual components inked and painted in black, together with a section of planking and wale which is painted black. The model illustrates nine gunports together with an aperture for the rudder and the quarter and stern gallery openings. The other three faces of the model are painted in brown paint with a stipple effect. On the top face of the model are a series of scored lines both at right angles to the centre line of the keel and radiating out at angles to show the disposition of the double frames. Model inscribed "882", "Superb" and "17".
