Warship; Third rate; 74 guns

Scale: 1:48. A sectional model of the port side of an elliptical stern, for a third rate 74 gun ship. The model has been largely made in wood. The outboard hull is painted black from the waterline up and has two white bands along the gun decks. There are three hinged gun ports fitted on the lower gun deck, and the stern galleries show two tiers of unglazed windows with some minimal decoration on the taffrail. Internally the model is complete with three decks mounted on beams supported by lodging knees, the stern frames are shown and partially planked and include large metal brackets made in brass on the model depicting the introduction of composite construction in the stern area. Either side of the gun ports are the eyebolts and rings to take the gun tackles.

All three decks are made from a single piece of wood and scribed with individual planks, with the inboard bulwarks painted red on the lower gun deck and white on the two upper decks, all complete with black waterways.

The keel block is inscribed, hand written in ink, "J Tucker Esqr. Surveyor of the Navy." Overwritten in pencil appears to be the number “183”, the remains of which can also been seen on the upper deck of the model. There is also a number "21" stamped to the lower hull to the left of the stern post and just below the lower counter rail and stern gun port.
