Sectional model; Stern model; Waterline model
Scale: Unknown. A model of the circular stern of a first rate ship of the line made entirely in wood and mounted on an emerald green baseboard, the whole of which can be removed from a glazed mahogany display case. The hull is finished in the traditional black and yellow ochre lines depicting all three gun decks, with the interior of the gun ports finished in red. Back of case slides off to reveal interior decks of model which are painted yellow ochre. The stern and quarter galleries are complete with glazed windows, decorative panels and rails, some of which are raised mouldings with the remainder painted on in various colours. There are fourteen windows which have been left open as they double as gun ports. Handwritten paper label on baseboard reads "Circular stern of a first rate by Thomas Roberts Esq Master Shipwright Royal Dockyard Devonport".and a typed paper label reads "Model of a circular stern of a line-of-battle ship by Thomas Roberts, esq". This label has been annotated with the number. "505".
