Warship; 46 guns; Frigate

Scale: Unknown. A model of the starboard side of a 46-gun frigate (circa 1812), showing the diagonal wood riders and longitudinal wood truss pieces in the hold, or orlop, but not between the ports. The external hull is fully planked and painted in white below the waterline and black above. The truncated deck beams and their knees have been depicted for four decks including a mezzanine-type deck on the orlop. There are twelve gunports depicted on the maindeck which have been blanked-off and painted a uniform green. A paper label marked ‘12’ has been applied to the inboard main deck just aft of the waist. There are fifteen gunports and a door leading to the stern starboard quarter gallery (not depicted) on the gundeck and these have similarly been blanked-off and painted green. The truncated deck beams of the gundeck have been shown by the use of heavier timbers than the maindeck above and lower deck below it. The model has been depicted on wooden keel blocks secured to a bevelled, stained, and polished wooden baseboard with simply shaped corner feet.
