Sectional model; Component model
Scale: 1:1. A model depicting a section of the strake and gunwale of a steel boat proposed by Vice Admiral Halstead, circa 1867. The model has been made entirely in wood, painted, stained and varnished in realistic colours and finishes. The section of strake is painted gold and held in position by a section of blue-painted angled steel riveted with five rivets to the boat's side. The section of rail is made of mahogany and a metal plate on its upper surface holds a wooden crutch, and an identical crutch made in brass can also be fitted and accompanies the model. The inboard hull and frames are painted a dark Prussian blue. The model is secured to two figured mahogany crutches.
