HMS Queen (1839); Warship; First rate 110 gun
Scale: 1:8. A sectional model depicting gun deck beams for the first rate 110 gun warship HMS Queen ex Royal Frederick (1839), as proposed by Mr J. Edye. The model has been made in wood and varnished, and shows a double scarph joint whose fitting is illustrated by the model being made in two sections. The two scarph edges on each joint have been faced in brass. On one face of one of the joints a hand written paper label has been applied which reads "Royal Frederick gun deck beams converted from African timber. Sided 17 inches, moulded 16 inches, lips thick 3 1/8 (to be cut square from the under and outsides). Bolts 7/8 square iron, treenails 1 1/2, keys thick at Butt 3/4, at point 1/8. Scarphs long from 7 to 8 feet. Mem on the other beams to be similar to the scarph. Bolts, treenails and lips to be reduced in proportion to scantling."
