Sectional model; Gun turret model

Scale: Unknown. Sectional model depicting the midship armour plating for a turret ship, as proposed by Captain Cowper Coles in 1866. It shows a gun turret, the gun turret support on the deck below and the iron frames that support the hull and upper deck. The model has been made in wood and painted in various colours. The upper deck has been painted a buff colour, the turret support and iron framing in red, the exterior hull and model edges in black, the lower deck in white and the turret itself in dark blue. The turret appears to made of card and is possibly a later addition or replacement. A section of the upper deck and adjoining hull has been cut away to show the frames and turret support more easily. There are three labels applied to the upper deck inscribed "No 351 Class 4", "D.S. 5055/66 Model of method of supporting turret referred to in Capt Coles Letter 21 May /66 DS 39 49" and "10".
