Equipment model; Steering gear model

Scale: Unknown. A working model of a steering quadrant made in brass with steel fittings and mounted on a simple rectangular mahogany baseboard. The triangular-shaped quadrant pivots on a spindle fixed into one end of the baseboard and the toothed side of the quadrant, which is wave-shaped, works a cog wheel. This wheel is mounted horizontally and asymmetrically set on a grooved wheel and the spindle that passes through both is fixed to the baseboard. A fine rope, or cord, passes round the wheel by means of the grooves, and is, in turn, worked around two smaller grooved wheels fixed to two corners of the baseboard. By turning a handle on top of the cog wheel, the quadrant can be operated.
