Sectional model
Scale: Unknown. A working model of steering apparatus, togther with rudder head which has been mounted on a solid wooden block roughly shaped in the form of a stern. The wooden block has been painted a light brown colour with a grain applied on top, and then the whole block has been edged in black paint. On the top face of the block are four iron spikes for locating a rectangular housing to cover the lower sheeves below the main wheel (now missing).
The wheel itself comprises of a large four-spoked wheel cast in brass with a slightly smaller wooden wheel behind fitted with nine turned handles, of which only one survives. The drum of the wheel is rigged with rope, which runs through a pair of large angled sheeves at deck level, and around a large single sheeve mounted horizontally to the top of the rudder head.
