Equipment model; Propeller model
Scale: 1:13.05. Model depicting a three bladed right hand propeller designed for HMS Javelin (1938) and used for the first extensive steering experiments for destroyers in 1937. The body of the propeller has a wax or resin coating and the boss is pointed. It is mounted on a shaft on an aluminium support in a glass and wooden display case with five other propeller models: see SLR2387, SLR2388, SLR2389, SLR2390 and SLR2392. The display shows a comparison between Froude's propellers circa 1874 and various 20th century designs.
