Warship (circa 1825)

Scale: 1:16. A sectional model depicting the midship of a sailing vessel (circa 1825). It shows the proposed plan, submitted by Mr J Peake in 1825, for raising a hinged port lid using a chain strop connected to the lower gun port hinges with rings and hoisted by a single chain pendant through a metal-lined tube through the side of the ship above the gun port. Inboard the mechanism is operated by a lever, hinged at one end and was rigged through a sheave mounted at an angle on the beam shelf.
The model is made largely in wood, painted black above and below the gun port lid on the outer face and top, red on the inner face of the lid and port itself (sill) with the rest of the internal features such as the deck, single turned deck beam pillar, deck beams, beam shelf, and diagonal braces painted white.
