HMS Caledonia (1862); Warship; 2nd rate; 91 guns

Scale: 1:24. A model of a section of the gundeck of HMS Caledonia (1862) made in wood with metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted black, the bulwark section is cream and the inboard hull section is white. The main timbers supporting the gundeck section are shown, their long sides painted white and their section faces polished wood. The gundeck section is polished wood and scored to resemble planking. A short section of the main deck is shown, also depicted in polished wood and supported by six iron knees. The gunport lid is hinged opening upwards and in the centre of which there is a small glazed porthole. Inside the gunport there are two horizontal bars connected to two pairs of hooks that enable the lid to be locked shut. The model is displayed on a rectangular mahogany with bevelled edges and four bun feet.
