Scale: 1:12. One of a pair of models that illustrate two plans for scuppers to be fitted to lower gun decks of a 74-gun ship circa 1815. The whole model has been constructed from various types of wood, with the outboard face painted black with a cream-white stripe above. Inboard illustrates the deck beams and the planking, which has been lain diagonally, all of which have been finished in a naturally varnished wood.

On both ends of the cross section the model has been scored to show the construction of the outer planking, the frames, deck beams and ceiling planks. On the gun deck itself is a brass scupper with a flange which is fitted flushed to the deck and the other end of which exits on the outer planking, again flushed with a flange.

The whole model is mounted on a mahogany moulded rectangular baseboard with shallow feet. On the top face of the sectioned hull is a hand written inscription in ink which reads "Model of a 74 Gun Ship's Gun Deck Scupper Scale 1 ins to a foot".
