Windlass, Up and down

Scale: Unknown. A working model of an up and down windlass mounted on a stained and polished darkwood baseboard. The main body of the windlass such as the drum, ratchet mechanism, king post, pawl and handles(one damaged) have been turned and worked in bone. The remaining parts such as the decorative drum ends, ratchet linkage and handle supports are made from brass while the arms themselves are made from steel. The drum itself is mounted through a pair of wooden stylised brackets secured to the baseboard. By operating the horizontal arms in an up and down motion, the drum rotates in one direction only locked by the pawl and moving clutches.
