Cable Compressor
Scale: Unknown. A working model of a compressor for chain anchor cable illustrating the standard pattern of 1835 it is made almost entirely of wood of various species most of which has been stained and lightly polished with a matt finish. The main body of the compressor resembles that of an open rectangular box with a raised upper edge which supports a pivoting grooved flap through which the cable passes and is eventually stopped. There is a roller fitted at one end in the shape of an hour glass, whilst at the other end is a large overarching handle which raises a bar inside to lift the anchor chain so as to trap it in the grooved flap.
