Sectional model; Midship model

Scale: Unknown. A midship sectional model fitted with a working capstan made of wood with metal fittings. The capstan is fitted with ten wooden bars and rigged with a rope swifter. The hull is painted black externally with a creamy-white and fleshy -pink bulwark inboard. There are four sections of planked deck, each with individual planks scored in, stained and varnished. At either end of the model are two iron deck beams together with a cross section showing the cross section of the hull, painted and marked on in ink. The capstan is complete with a circular bed fitted with several palls, three cylindrical rollers, a pair of chain stoppers, a small section of studded anchor chain and a pair of cylindrical bollards for securing and directing the anchor chain. There are two brass stopper eye bolts in front of the bollards and a pair of deck hatches, in front and behind the capstan, which are fitted with wooden gratings. The whole model is mounted on a square wooden baseboard with a moulded section at either end. On old display label: 'Capstan and swifter' and on deck '30'.
