HMS Energetic (1902); Service vessel; Tug, paddle
A bush and wedge paddle gear for HMS Energetic (1902), a tug. The item is made from lignum vitae, cylindrical in shape, and is a dark brown colour. It is warn in several places and in particular there are two grooves down the side. There is a crack along the length, more noticeable on the inner face of the cylinder. A card with rounded corners has been fixed to the inner face of the cylinder, held in place by a bolt which also is used to fix the wedge to the outside face of the bush. The card has a hand written inscription that reads 'Lignum Vitae Bush and Wedge from Feathering Paddle Gear HM Paddle-Tug Energetic 1902-1953".
