HMS Asia (1824); Warship; Second rate 84 gun
Scale: Unknown. A model of the mainmast of the second rate 84 gun warship HMS Asia (1824) showing the shot-hole damage sustained at the Battle of Navarino in 1827. The model has been made from wood and painted a yellow ochre colour. The mast bands have been depicted using strips of paper and painted black. There are two wide black-painted bands about one third of the way along the mast and a number '15' half way up. A handwritten label applied to one end of the model reads "A model of Asia's main Mast as wounded by 23 cannon shot at the Battle of Navarino October 20 1827". The battle damage has been accurately depicted.
