Full hull model
Scale: 1:24. A full hull plank on frame model of a tender, a ship's boat for the sailing barge 'Cambria' (1906). Model is partially decked and equipped with a pair of oars and boat hook, and inscribed with ‘Cambria London’ on the transom. At this scale, the model represents a tender measuring 15 feet in length by 7 feet in the beam. Built in clinker fashion it has been reinforced around the gunwale, with pads for protection against the potential damage it may receive working in busy and crowded waters and docks.
The tenders of Thames sailing barges were either stored upturned on the hatch covers, or slung from davits over the stern quarters. The operational nature of the sailing barges often required the use of a tender to get to and from the shore when the barges were anchored in a tidal way.
