Fishing vessel; Small craft

Scale: 1:12. A full hull model of a Newfoundland dory (1963), as used on the Grand Banks fisheries. The model is made entirely from wood with cotton fabric sails. The hull has been constructed plank-on-frame and consists of a flat floor/base to which a sharply raking stempost and tombstone stern are fixed, all of which are held in position by three sawn frames and three large planks or strakes. The hull is painted largely a bright yellow with a dark green gunwale capping and a bright red gunwale strake. It is fitted internally with three removable thwarts which rest on two horizontal stringers, six sets of wooden thole pins, and two pairs of wooden oars, the shafts of which are painted red or green denoting port and starboard. The model is rigged with a single mast and gaff sail, the spars of which are of natural wood with small metal eyes and rigging. There are two large rope lifting handles or beckets threaded through the stern and stem posts.
