Equipment model

Scale: 1:4.(?) A model of a ship's stabilizer made entirely in metal and displayed on a gloss grey painted baseboard with a varnished and bevelled oak frame. The model is stored in a bespoke oak travelling case with spring-loaded catches and a leather carrying handle. The model has a chrome lever on the right-hand side which, when turned through 30 degrees, works a series of three pulleys that are linked to a shaft, turning it in a limited arc.

The shaft forms part of the stabilizer fin which has a hinged flap similar to an aircraft wing. The shaft, stabilizer, and fin are chromed, and the top edge of the stabilizer is painted red (paint finish chipped). The stabilizer is housed in a section of ship's side, the left-hand edge of which depicts a part of the hull. The entire housing is painted gloss grey. An aperture in the hull allows the stabilizer to be extended and demonstrated. The supports for the pulley mechanism are also painted a gloss grey, as is the baseboard to which the model is secured.

A chrome plaque is screwed to the baseboard with the inscription "'"Denny Brown" ship stabilizer model of flap fin Prov. Pat.No 7013-45".
