Culgoa (1890); Passenger/cargo vessel

Scale: 1:48. Half block model of the Culgoa (1890) made largely of wood with silver plated fittings. The hull is constructed in bread and butter fashion and finished in natural varnished wood below the waterline together with draught marks at the bow and stern, with black topsides up to deck level finished with a wooden gunwale capping. The rounded counter stern is complete with painted decoration either side of the port of registry 'London' which is just above a single rudder mounted on the stern frame (propeller now missing). The decks are complete with individual planks lined in black ink throughout. The raised forecastle deck is surround entirely by a guard rail mounted on silver plated stanchions and fitted with a large conical navigation lantern. Either side of the foremast are two large rectangular cargo hatches with their boards and coambings lined in black ink. The bridge superstructure is complete with a raised bridge wing on which is mounted a small triangular skylight and is surrounded by a guard rail mounted on silver plated stanchions. Either side of the centrally mounted and raking black funnel are a series of doors, panels and windows inked in with shadow to show glazing and open doors. Just aft of the funnel and forward of the foremast are two raised and triangular shaped skylights complete with 24 ventilation portholes. Between the main and mizzen mast are two large cargo hatches with their boards and coambings lined in black ink. Just aft of the mizzen mast is a tall rectangular deckhouse with the panels, windows and doors inked in black with shadows as well as a smaller rectangular skylight with a rounded top just forward of the steering position. The whole model is mounted on a natural varnished wood backboard and displayed in a glazed mahogany display case.
