Warship; Frigate; 38 guns

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a 38-gun frigate, made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. The depicted vessel has a single central paddle-wheel located in a well just forward of amidships. The hull has the characteristics of a catamaran and features twin integral stern posts. The hull is painted a copper finish below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above, black above the waterline with a broad white stripe running the length of the gundeck, and white gunwales. Nineteen gunports on either side of the hull are shown in the open position but there are no lids. Fittings include a reinforcing brace, painted white, around the pointed bow; vertical scaling ladder integral to the port broadside hull; a single deck, stained and varnished a dark brown finish, with small hatches; and a rounded, almost semi-circular, stern. On label applied to the port bow ‘97’.
