Warship; Floating battery

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a floating battery gunboat (circa 1850) made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted. The hull gives the appearance of being planked carvel fashion and is painted or stained a dark brown finish. The hull has a large figurehead in the form of a horse’s head, a single row of widely spaced minute portholes and a single four-bladed propeller. Other features include a single deck superstructure with rounded ends, placed amidships, and accommodating a number of gunports that completely encircle it, some of which contain guns; roof of the superstructure accommodating several unidentified fittings; and provision at the stern for a rudder. The model is mounted on a pair of crutches and displayed on an octagonal wooden baseboard.
