Service vessel; Pontoon

Scale: 1:72. A straight-sided, double-ended pontoon whose appearance is reminiscent of a modern skip. It looks more like an industrial, rather than a maritime, relic. The copper sheets comprising the hull’s sides and bottom have been riveted to a grid-like metal frame which would have given the vessel great structural rigidity. The top edge right around all four sides of the pontoon are wood, and there are securing rings at each corner. It is one of several models of pontoons the NMM acquired from the Museum of Artillery in the Rotunda, Woolwich, in 1957 (see the model of an Austrian pontoon, SLR2706).
