Passenger vessel; Lakatoi

Scale: unknown. Model of a lakatoi made from wood and other organic materials. The trimaran hull is carved from three solid pieces of wood positioned side by side whose pointed ends are covered in woven fibres. Mounted on to the hulls and attached to them is a large frame roughly rectangular in shape made from composite materials including wood, straw and other organic fibrous materials that have been woven and tied together. The vessel shape is double ended it being square at both ends and decorated with straw like tassels. The sides of the platform terminate at each end in a claw like decoration. There are rails at either end of the platform but the sides are open. The cabin is placed amidships and occupies most of the area of the platform. The sides of the cabin are made from straw like material tied and woven together in panels that contain both horizontal and vertical slats. The cabin roof is pitched towards amidships and is in two sections with an open area between them. The roofs are made from overlapping slats of bamboo beneath a wooden frame. Between the cabin roofs and secured to the bottom of the boat are two asymmetrically positioned bamboo masts to which are attached claw shaped fibre sails. The edges of the sails are decorated with painted fibre tassels and each sail has a pennant like decoration consisting of a long strip of fibre that is decorated with pink and purple horizontal stripes and which terminates in long fibrous tassels. On one of the pennants there is a crescent shaped piece of green material with tassels hanging from its points. Rigged from both masts are two lantern shaped objects made from long strands of fibre. The masts are supported on one side of the vessel by a pair of A frames that are themselves decorated with tassels. The model is equipped with a small raft which has three claw shaped sails and is twin hulled. On one of the cabin roofs three paddles are stowed, two are identical with spade shaped blades and the other resembles an elongated spatula.
