Maid of Kent (1958); Passenger vessel; Ferry
Scale: Unknown. A stylised half block model of the starboard side of the bow of the twin screw passenger ferry Maid of Kent (1958) made entirely in wood. The section is made up of several horizontal pieces of timber. The model shows the recess for stowing the starboard anchor, the anchor in position, the hawse hole and the method for running through the anchor cable. The cable, represented by hemp rope, is tied off on a wooden stanchion with a rounded top which is itself secured to the model by a plywood extension to the foredeck. The extension is reinforced underneath by an plywood bracket projecting from the rear face of the section at an angle of 45 degrees. Also attached the bottom of the rear face of the section is a rough irregular-shaped piece of wood to improve the stability of the model. Stations are marked on the starboard hull side at regular intervals, in pencil. The anchor is made in walnut and has vertical flukes.
