Structural model; Equipment model; Sheer legs

Scale: Unknown. A model of a pair of sheer legs made in wood and metal with rope rigging and stained and varnished. The model consists of a central mast which is circular in section along its entire length and mounted directly into a rectangular, stained and polished mahogany baseboard. This mast is reinforced by thirty-one iron bands made of paper and painted black and is supported by four chain shrouds. At the top of the mast is a small flag staff which is octagonal in shape at its lower end and tapers towards the top eventually finishing in a circular section. Either side of the mast are two pairs of wooden sheer legs all of which are circular in section and taper towards their top ends. At nearly two-thirds towards the top of the sheer legs are two metal A shaped hinged brackets supporting chain rigging for raising and lowering the legs. At the very top of the sheer legs they are joined together by two metal circular caps from through which are hinged A shaped metal rods from which are rigged a pair of large metal threefold blocks. There is replacement running rigging rigged through these block to another threefold block at the lower end to which is connected a large bow-shaped shackle. At one end of the baseboard are a pair of large circular capstans used for operating both the rigging and angle of the sheer legs.
