Equipment model
Scale: Unknown. A model of lowering and disengaging equipment for launching iron boats, as proposed by G.F. Russell. The model is made of wood and metal which has been stained and patternated a dark brown colour. It sits on a coffin shaped section of deck to which is mounted two almost semi-circular housings located side by side and between which runs a longitudinal trough part of the upper sides of which are missing. Abaft of the housings there are two ship's boats made in iron, of equal length, but of slightly different designs. The boat on the raised trough is open decked whereas the model on the starboard side of the trough has enclosed decks fore and aft. Attached to the walls of the trough and to the deck section are the remains for lowering the boats. A label has been pinned to the side of the port side housing marked "G.F.Russell's patent Lowering stowing & disengaging apparatus."
