First rate warship (circa 1745)
Scale: Unknown. A model of the mainmast, yards, and spars of a first rate warship circa 1745. The component parts are stored in a bespoke fitted travelling case which is divided into four sections, the lid of which is secured with three hooks. The component parts are individually annotated. The mast pieces are largely stained and varnished wood with details painted black, while the yards, spars, crosstrees, caps and other fittings are painted black. The annotations have been hand painted in off-white on the black painted parts, and in black on the wooden parts of the model. The metal fittings have all been made in brass.
