Merchant vessel; Dhow, Ghanjah

Scale: Not to scale. A full hull model of ghanjah, a type of dhow. The hull has been carved from a solid piece of wood, as has the exterior to which the foredeck beams and aft deck have been attached. The stern, bulwarks, and figurehead have been decorated in a stylised manner. The model can be rigged and its sails set. Fittings include three service boats rigged to davits, an ensign staff, a folding anchor with a chain, a rudder and tiller, a cooking stove, two masts with their lateen yards, oars, and sails. One of the boats is stowed by stern davits and the other two double ended boats are stowed transversely on the aft deck. There is a large metal hook attached to the thwart just forward of the aft deck (function unknown). The model is mounted on a wooden cradle.
